Paul addresses the practice of idol making by helping them to understand who God truly is-that he is not a God that needs you to make him or create him. Yet, if you look at the context, you see that they were making idols. That verse has been used to suggest that clapping is a sin. OH: Another would be in Acts 17, which says that God is not worshiped with human hands. We cut people coming and going without truly understanding what Paul was dealing with in that context.ĭM: What’s another example of people teaching a Bible passage which they clearly hadn’t taken the time to interpret correctly? Yet we have taken that passage and used it for everything we want to use it for. And he was dealing with the fact that you had prophets and tongue speakers who were not doing things in a way that would be edifying, in a way the church could understand. In 1 Corinthians 14:40, when Paul says that all things be done decently and in order, contextually he was dealing with the management of spiritual gifts. So, there have been numerous ways that that passage has been used to suggest various positions, and every position I’ve heard on that passage has been about trying to protect the practice-as opposed to truly treating what the apostle Paul was treating in the context of 1 Corinthians 12 and 14. That passage has been used for a great variety of things from saying you shouldn’t clap in church, to how women are dressed in church, to what should be the order of worship, to the idea that you can’t sing and do the Lord’s supper at the same time. “Let all things be done decently and in order.” This is a really common passage, where it says, One example would be 1 Corinthians 14:40. When we want to be orthodox or when we want to ensure that we’re theologically correct, sometimes we’re more loyal to a particular religious tradition than to a proper interpretation of Scripture. In the name of theology and doctrine, sometimes our zeal gets ahead of our hermeneutical understanding. Heyward: I can think of numerous cases and some of those cases may even be from my own early preaching experience, where after looking back retrospectively, I started to realize, Man, I really took some Scriptures out of context. Can you give an example of when you heard somebody’s interpretation of a Bible passage and it made you say, “What in the world?!”ĭr. With everybody having their own Bible (and their own social media account, blog, podcasts, etc.), there’s a risk that people will invent and teach some very unbiblical interpretations. The following is a Question and Answer post by Daniel McCoy and Orpheus.ĭaniel McCoy: Alister McGrath wrote Christianity’s Dangerous Idea in which he explains that if you give everybody their own Bible in their own language, you will have tons of different interpretations. And yet … there are many people with questions about Scripture. He uses the Word of God as his foundational manual for disciple making. Heyward is involved every day in the trenches helping people to be disciples of Jesus.

I also ran into a problem with InDesign crashing if I executed an export command too quickly after the merge. The 20 hours that it used to take to merge 4,000 records is down to about 35 minutes all told. The PDF merge is actually very quick, and the result is that it takes roughly 2 minutes for each merge of ~250 records. I export the resulting workflows as PDF documents and then, using the Acrobat 7.0 Pro library, merge all of the resulting PDF documents into one master workflow. I was able to work around this issue by breaking down my merges into batches of roughly 200 to 250 records, which seems to be the sweet spot. Merges over 300 records would stall or hang for hours upon hours, sometimes overnight. I was unable to find a solution that allowed me to merge anything over 250 records with reliable results in a timely manner. Just updating for the sake of keeping a record for future reference: Thanks for replying! RE: Data merge optimization? jmgalvin (TechnicalUser) 18 May 06 19:42 In that case, I think my only hope is to get into the InDesign Server program as a partner and pray that the "Server" version without the GUI is more efficient than the desktop publishing version. If 4GB of system memory isn't enough, then shame on Adobe for creating such a horribly inefficient means for merging data. If it improves but doesn't work, I have room for another 1GB on top of that. I had the IT guy order me 3GB of memory, so we'll see what happens then. I think the bottom line is that 512MB of system memory is far too little for the task at hand. I'm running 4.0.2 and double checked the Adobe website to make sure it is the most recent release - It is. If there's a way to disable this, I haven't found it. I wish I could disable Acrobat automatically opening the PDFs that I export. The alternative is to not export (I am running multiple consequetive merges), but then I am stuck with tons of memory taken up by big merged InD documents open. It would defeat the whole purpose of the development project.Īnother unfortunate side effect that I can't seem to avoid is that when I export to a PDF, it automatically opens Acrobat. There are something like 15 different character styles involved and I can't get away from that. This is not a typical mail merge I'm actually dynamically creating laser printed tickets with all kinds of varying fonts and formating. The project *requires* a large number of different character styles. I killed all unnecessary processes including virus scanners and the like.įonts are probably killing me, here. Unfortunately, I have to have the Visual Basic app running while the merge occurs since this is a fully automated process. I've tried running as "light" as possible. RE: Data merge optimization? jmgalvin (TechnicalUser) 18 May 06 12:07 If anyone has any similar experiences to share or recommendations, I would very much appreciate it. I'm wondering if a computer with 4GB+ of system memory would help, or if the problem would just continue to spiral out of control with 100,000+ record merges requiring 30GB of system memory to execute properly. I can't find a way to convert all of the text objects to a single vector object (They are dynamically generated by VB code, so I can't import from Illustrator or anything). We're talking about 30 text objects per record, 14 records on each page - so figure about 420 objects on each page. I think the main thing that is hurting me is the sheer number of objects on each page. The final merges will be thousands of records, so to encounter problems with just a few hundred is rather discouraging. Setting a maximum number of records per document (To no effect). Hiding the windows while the data merge takes place. I'm wondering if anyone has found solutions to this that are not documented data merge options. Anything over a few hundred records (Fourteen of which fit on each page, so we're only talking 20-ish pages) causes it to stall. These aren't terribly large merges by any measure. I'm running into some serious issues with my data merges in InDesign CS2 - The software sucks memory until it is using 350MB/512MB of system memory and inflates the page file to 1.2GB, at which point the program just begins to hang. I've debated upgrading because I am now out of the keyboard repair warranty, but since I had everything replaced and am also working from home full time now, I have my MBP docked and use an external keyboard, trackpad, and monitor. They scratched my screen during the repair, so they also replaced my screen, meaning a lot of my MBP is new. So luckily I got a new top case and battery. They replaced the keyboard for me no questions asked, as they said that the down arrow key was sticky. I've had it for over 4 years now, and before the keyboard warranty expired I took it into the Apple Store to get it checked out. I also have a 2016 MBP but luckily have never had a major problem with the keyboard. You can also adjust the key repeat rate using defaults write command. Gordon's history with his distant wife comes to light, Phil's anger and impatience with Gordon becomes a factor and all the while Mike gets closer and closer to the end of the sessions with Mary Hobbes. After Hank's disappearance the rest of the crew becomes more and more edgy as the week continues. As the week continues Gordon becomes more irritable, Mike continues deeper into the sessions and Hank heads back late at night, for the silver dollar payload, and mysteriously disappears. Mike begins stealing time away from the job to sneak downstairs and listen to the recorded sessions which are centered around patient #444 Mary Hobbes, a patient with multiple personalities. As the film glides along with horror stories of old, employee banter, and Gordon's increasingly distant behaviour, Mike finds some old recorded sessions (labeled 1-9) in an office while checking a generator and Hank stumbles upon coins from the 1800's in another part of the building. Now cue Gordon's employees: Hank (played by Josh Lucas), Gordon's nephew Jeff (Brandon Sexton III), and Mike (Stephen Gevedon) a former lawschool student who's father was the district attorney who indirectly led to the closing of Kirkbride through a patient's lawsuit in 1984. This scene is cut short by terrible screams and a haunting feeling that perhaps all is not well in the Fleming household. After the heebie-jeebies have been established cut to a scene of Gordon sitting alone in his truck as he fawns over pictures of his newborn and watches her and his wife as they play out front of their home. Distracted by ghastly rooms and one hallway in particular, Gordon hears a voice call out to him but is snapped back to reality by partner Phil. The film opens with a lightly humoured tour through the asylum led by Bill Griggs (a cameo by Paul Guilfoyle) as Gordon and Phil get their first glimpse of the aforementioned mad house. Hazmat Elimination Company, an asbestos removal company run by Gordon Fleming (played by Peter Mullan) and his associate Phil (played by David Carusoe), are the first to start on the renovation of the building. Kirkbride Mental Health Hospital, built in 1871 is being reclaimed as a town hall and renovated after being closed down nearly fifteen years earlier in 1985.The synopsis below may give away important plot points. Meanwhile Hank finds ancient silver coins and disappears. However, in Session 9, Simon finally appears and he discovers that he is evil. Mike listens to the tapes and none of the personalities wants to talk about Simon. Mike finds a sealed box tagged with the word "Evidence" and when he opens, he finds nine taped sessions of the patient Mary Hobbes that had multiple personalities (The Princess, Billy and Simon). Phil does not like Hank that has stolen his girlfriend Mike is a law school dropout and Jeff has fear of the darkness. Gordon and his partner Phil need to bring more workers to accomplish the schedule, and Hank, Mike and Jeff join the team. He has a baby girl and has some personal problems with his wife Wendy, calling her on his cellular. The owner of a small asbestos abatement company, Gordon Fleming, needs to work and accepts to remove the asbestos of the abandoned Danvers State Hospital, a mental institution that is closed since 1985 in one week. At the very least, it’s worth a rental and a watch with your kids on a Friday night. I mean heck, it will probably be forgotten completely by the end of the year. Let me emphasize one thing: this is a funny and entertaining movie for both kids and adults, but it is not groundbreaking, it’s not going to win any awards. Any longer and it would have really hurt the movie. That’s just over an hour! It packs in action, humor and lots of colorful characters to keep the kids interested. One of the biggest selling points for me? The run time. Again, this is pretty much a waste of the talent, but it’s fun to hear her anyway. Jane Lynch ( The 40 Year Old Virgin, Role Models) shows up as one of the scientists as well. The story back on Earth with the NASA scientists is not nearly as interesting as what’s going on in space. Poole, one of the scientists, but his role was pretty much a throwaway role. Jeff Daniels played the big bad guy Zartog, and you can tell he had a really good time doing this movie. Kristin Chenoweth has a fun, small role as a quirky little alien named Kilowatt. Andy Samberg and Cheryl Hines were perfect for these roles. This is one of those cases where it seems like they didn’t just cast these roles because of the big names, but because they really fit with the characters. The voice cast also really helps the movie out. This movie had me and my six year old daughter laughing throughout. They’re just silly little plays on words, but I’d rather hear that than Shrek sequel style humor. I love all the goofy “chimp” jokes he tells. Titan, for example, is almost painfully optimistic throughout the whole movie, but what makes him more bearable is his humor. I’m a sucker for cheesy, old-fashioned humor and this one is full of it. The biggest relief for me was that this wasn’t one of those Dreamworks-style animated films overloaded with pop culture references and adult humor. Yes the plot is ridiculous, yes the animation isn’t all that great but the movie still works. They now have to save the planet and manage to get back home to their own. The chimps pass through the wormhole unscathed, but find themselves on a planet full of colorful creatures who are in danger of being turned to statues by an evil lord named Zartog (Jeff Daniels). He is sent up with two NASA trained chimps Luna (Cheryl Hines) and Titan (Patrick Warburton). Instead of sending humans and possibly obliterating them, they decide to send the chimps and Ham III is recruited unwillingly. When a space probe is lost through a wormhole, NASA wants to send a space ship through it to see if it could become passable by humans. He’s naturally rebellious and thinks he’s a screw up compared to the successes in his family. Ham III (voiced by Andy Samberg) is a circus monkey whose grandfather was one of the first chimps in space back in the ’50s. But honestly, and stay with me now, it’s not such a bad movie. But after WALL*E and all of its glory, kids didn’t get another mind-blowing blockbuster. It gave kids plenty of time to see the movie, buy the toys, get the Happy Meals at McDonald’s and then get bored with it. For example, it was good timing for Kung Fu Panda to be released prior to WALL*E being released this summer. Too often a movie is released with bad timing. This sequel enhances what the first installment is known for, which is the surreal and boundless environment. Jumpscares and crushing large objects continue to be its physical strength, while also able to project your worst fears into your mind. Hello Neighbor 2 launches later this year for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.Joe Wainer Updated a year ago Survival horror stealth game Hello Neighbor 2 is a survival horror stealth adventure game that takes place after the events of the first game, where Mr. This preview is based on a digital code provided by the publisher. We’ll have to see how it all pans out when Hello Neighbor 2 launches later this year. Hello Neighbor 2 is clearly still in its earlier stages, but the vision to deliver something bigger and creepier than what came before is clear. It’s a major piece to the environmental puzzle that is Hello Neighbor. You’ll notice them checking different locations, changing their route, or even blocking off certain entry points. As players continue to sneak around and inevitably get caught by other characters, those characters will begin to learn and recognize your behaviors in the same way you do theirs. Hello Neighbor 2 also brings back the standout feature from the first game - the evolving AI. There’s also a good deal of patience required, as you’ll need to observe and memorize the behavioral patterns of Raven Brooks’ inhabitants in order to manipulate them and avoid capture. There’s a lot sneaking around as you carefully navigate an area to not make noise or enter a character’s line of sight. Just about every NPC in the game is hostile, chasing you out of their zone if they spot you. Whether it's the police officer investigating a house, or the weird owner of the pretzel shop, players now have multiple buildings/environments to explore.Ī major aspect of the Hello Neighbor franchise, and one that’s evident in the beta for Hello Neighbor 2, is the marriage of stealth and horror. There are several unique areas around Raven Brooks that players can explore.Įach of these locations feel like they’re telling their own story within a much larger one. It was relatively small and the neighbor’s house was the sole point of interest. While the original game did allow you to freely move around the map. The major aspect of Hello Neighbor 2 that separates it from its predecessor is in its open-world approach. This cast of peculiar characters of course includes the titular neighbor, who is back and up to no good. Posters of missing children are all over the place, and it feels like just about every character has something to hide. Taking on the role of a journalist, players are investigating the town of Raven Brooks and its bizarre inhabitants. The Hello Neighbor 2 beta introduces us to the story in the latest chapter. Now, the universe is set to expand with the release of Hello Neighbor 2 later this year, which we got to take for a spin thanks to the first beta. Hello Neighbor is one of the more interesting indie releases of the last several years, taking YouTube and Twitch by storm as content creators and players worked tirelessly to unravel all of the secrets and mystery of TinyBuild’s horror sandbox. Randomized controlled trials of continuous stimulant therapy for the treatment of ADHD spanning 2 years have demonstrated treatment effectiveness and safety. Reviews of clinical stimulant research have established the safety and effectiveness of long-term continuous amphetamine use for the treatment of ADHD. Reviews of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) studies suggest that long-term treatment with amphetamine decreases abnormalities in brain structure and function found in subjects with ADHD, and improves function in several parts of the brain, such as the right caudate nucleus of the basal ganglia. Long-term amphetamine exposure at sufficiently high doses in some animal species is known to produce abnormal dopamine system development or nerve damage, but in humans with ADHD, pharmaceutical amphetamines at therapeutic dosages appear to improve brain development and nerve growth. It also shares many chemical and pharmacological properties with human trace amines, particularly phenethylamine and N-methylphenethylamine, the latter being an isomer of amphetamine produced within the human body.ĭexedrine Spansule 5, 10 and 15 mg capsules, a sustained-release dosage form of dextroamphetamineĭextroamphetamine is used to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and narcolepsy (a sleep disorder), and is sometimes prescribed off-label for depression and obesity. Dextroamphetamine is sometimes prescribed as the inactive prodrug lisdexamfetamine dimesylate, which is converted into dextroamphetamine after absorption.ĭextroamphetamine, like other amphetamines, elicits its stimulating effects via several distinct actions: it inhibits or reverses the transporter proteins for the monoamine neurotransmitters (namely the serotonin, norepinephrine and dopamine transporters) either via trace amine-associated receptor 1 (TAAR1) or in a TAAR1 independent fashion when there are high cytosolic concentrations of the monoamine neurotransmitters and it releases these neurotransmitters from synaptic vesicles via vesicular monoamine transporter 2. Pharmaceutical dextroamphetamine sulfate is available as both a brand name and generic drug in a variety of dosage forms. Dextroamphetamine is the dextrorotatory, or 'right-handed', enantiomer and exhibits more pronounced effects on the central nervous system than levoamphetamine. The amphetamine molecule exists as two enantiomers, levoamphetamine and dextroamphetamine. It is also used as an athletic performance and cognitive enhancer, and recreationally as an aphrodisiac and euphoriant. Dextroamphetamine is a central nervous system (CNS) stimulant and an amphetamine enantiomer that is prescribed for the treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and narcolepsy.
